What travels with a donor module
An SRS module is not a generic part. It stores the donor VIN, the donor's option configuration and, on many platforms, a link to the immobilizer or gateway. Install it and the vehicle sees a mismatch immediately.

When a used module does work
A donor unit can work when the part number matches exactly, the donor was never in a deployment, and the module is either VIN coded to your vehicle or has your original data transferred onto it. That is a narrow set of conditions and it usually still involves bench work.
The straightforward alternative
In most cases the best part is the one already in your car. Your original module has the correct VIN, correct coding and correct configuration. A crash data reset removes the deployment record and returns it ready to reinstall, with no coding step and no donor sourcing.
It is usually cheaper than a salvage module plus the coding visit, and there is no hunting for a matching part number.
